Read the notes before you read the map: this shows what has been reported, not how dangerous a place is.

THESE ARE PUBLISHED REPORTS, NOT A DANGER RATING
Every dot is a case an authority has announced or a local outlet has reported. Where dots cluster, you are looking at where cases get charged, where newsrooms are busy and where people live — not at where a person is most likely to be harmed. We do not publish a risk score, a heat index or a ranking of cities, because no honest one can be built from these feeds.

AN EMPTY AREA IS NOT A SAFE AREA
Most trafficking, abduction and sexual assault is never reported publicly at all, and much of what is reported never reaches a newsroom. Whole countries here have no source covering them, and an area with nothing on this map may simply have nothing published in the sources listed at the foot of this page. Read absence as missing data, never as reassurance.

SOME PINS ARE A WHOLE STATE
When a report names only a state, a judicial district or a country, the marker sits at the middle of that area and is drawn hollow. It marks a jurisdiction, not an address. The popup says so on every one.

OFFICIAL OR NEWS, READ IT AS A LEAD
Federal agencies announce only a fraction of what happens each day, so the map also carries local TV, newspaper and police-newsroom coverage from the US and around the world, marked “News report” with the outlet named. Neither kind is the final word: an official announcement is a charge or an appeal, not a verdict, and early reporting can be wrong or later corrected. Each entry says who published it so you can weigh it yourself.

Nothing here is summarised into a claim of our own. Each entry keeps the publisher’s own wording and links straight back to whoever published it — every source is named, with what it covers, at the foot of this page. Theirs is the original to check, including the photographs, which we deliberately do not republish.

05Where this comes from
OFFICIAL ALERTS, PLUS LOCAL NEWS.
Official alerts come from the authorities on the cases they announce. Because federal agencies publish only a fraction of what happens each day, we also collect local TV, newspaper and police-newsroom coverage for every state, and label it as news wherever it appears. Everything is fetched from our own server on a schedule — no visitor’s browser, and no visitor’s search, ever reaches a source. We add nothing: no analysis, no scoring, no photographs of missing people, and nothing the source has not already made public.
Coverage is honest but uneven. The United States is well covered because its federal agencies publish thoroughly; outside it, this map is thin, and that is a gap in what governments publish rather than a quiet stretch of the world.

NCMEC
MISSING CHILDREN

Every child the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children lists as currently missing who was reported missing in the past year, state by state, plus the alerts NCMEC is actively circulating. When NCMEC marks a child found, the case leaves its list and leaves this map at the next hourly check. Children missing longer than a year are on NCMEC’s own search. NCMEC is the national clearinghouse; its poster is always the authoritative version.

Local TV, newspaper and police-newsroom coverage of kidnappings, abductions, human trafficking, sexual assault (including on college campuses) and missing children, found through Google News searches run for every US state and for national editions in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, Pakistan, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, the Philippines and Singapore, plus Spanish-language editions in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Spain, Peru and Guatemala. These are news reports, not official alerts: each one names the outlet that published it, may later be corrected, and is placed by the town or state the coverage names.
Reports are kept as published and refreshed in place; if a publisher removes or updates a case, our copy follows at the next hourly check. Nothing on this page is generated by us, and no report on this page comes from a form submitted to this site.
